A tribute to Jay Dee aka J Dilla
James Dewitt Yancey (February 7, 1974 – February 10, 2006), better known by the stage names J Dilla and Jay Dee, was an American record producer who emerged from the mid-1990s underground hip hop scene in Detroit, Michigan. According to his obituary at NPR.org, he "was one of the music industry's most influential hip-hop artists, working for big-name acts like De La Soul, Busta Rhymes and Common.
Yancey's career began slowly. He has now become highly regarded, most notably for the production of critically acclaimed albums by Common, Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, and Erykah Badu. He was a member of Slum Village and produced their acclaimed debut album Fan-Tas-Tic (Vol. 1) and their follow-up Fantastic, Vol. 2.
In the early 2000, Yancey's career as a solo artist began to improve; A solo album Welcome 2 Detroit was followed by a collaborative album with California producer Madlib, Champion Sound, which catalyzed the careers of both artists. Just as his music was becoming increasingly popular, Yancey died in 2006 of the blood disease TTP.
Following J Dilla's death, the hip hop community became centered upon his music and image. Many of the artists with whom Yancey worked performed or recorded tributes, and a large group of followers voiced their support for the late musician. Yancey's music experienced a rebirth as the producer gained many times more listeners than he had during his life, partly due to media exposure. Though several posthumous albums have been released and others are planned, the massive amounts of unreleased recordings by the producer remain somewhat undetermined. Yancey's estate has also been controverted.

THE LAST CALL ITALIAN SKATEBOARD TRADE FAIR 2011

BEATNOTIK AT THE LAST CALL ITALIAN SKATEBOARD TRADE FAIR 2011 WINTER EDITION 12-13-14 FEBRUARY 2011, MILAN
www.thelastcall.it/
You may have a thousand reasons to start a Skateboard Fair and none to not start it. We awaited somebody to make the first step, until we realized that this would never happen, at least in the way we had in mind.
We wrote this text six months ago without knowing what we were going to face in organizing a skateboard tradeshow, but we were right: the event was cool, skaters had a lot of fun, the retailers came, the exhibitors had some business, we ran out of wine and salami... largely exceeding our expectations.
So we did not stop there, we kept on working, traveling, dreaming, designing, contracting and producing.
For this winter session, we've decided to move indoor, from Bergamo to Milano at the Lambretto Art Project and to have The Last Call lasting three days instead of one.
The first day, Saturday, will be dedicated mostly to introducing the event and the day’s schedule will be much devoted to skating: we’ll have exhibitions, presentations, free skating and other surprises. Sunday and Monday will see the brands exhibition and various non-scheduled fun contests.
SCHEDULE

Ore 17:00 → 00:00

Oz681 "Beatnotik Collective" Interview

Today just introduce Me, Myself and I!
Hello my name is…GIGI a.k.a. Oz681 a.k.a. Beatnotik collective
I was raised in…Napoli, the "Sun/Sin City"!
The reason that you’re reading about me is…because i'm an illustrator and I spend my time colouring Life!
Right now I’m working on…my expo, and on the developing of my own brand and collective called Beatnotik, born to support artist, producers and you all!!
But I’d rather be…at home drawing lost in Rap music while i'm smocking a good weed!
My most prized possessions are…my Family and my friends, 29 years of Rap memories, my dog and my panda!
But I’d give it all away for…there's nothing enough shining in the entire universe to convice me to destroy what i built in my life
The first thing I do in the morning is…i switch on the music and i try to figure out if there is one more cigarette left...
The last thing I do at night is…smoke that last cigarette and switch off the music...or not!
My momma always said…enjoy every single day like it's the last.. and have fun!
I love it when people…are spontaneous and free
I hate it when people…don't respect human beings, nature and animals.
If you ever see me walking down the street…scream "YO MAN"!
My most notable run-in with the law…they never catch me and i wish i'll always be fast enough
If I had to say sorry it would be because…my instinct do the talking
I get real aggro when…i see a picture of Berlusconi, and fuck..even hearing ( saying ) his name pisses me off!
The last time I swore I’d never drink was after a night of…After I blacked out a whole night and been told the next day by my friends all the shit I’ve been pulling all night
Future projects and plans…i'm contributing to the first skate convention in Milan " The last call", i'm also working on the next Beatnotik collection and i'm always in the hunt for new productors, beatmakers and artists that could be part of my project.
And before I leave I’d like to give a shout out to…my mum, my personal hero "above the clouds", my sister, my love, my people that support me every day, my music, J Dillaaaa, and everyone who gives color to this world.
